Ontario
Northland Railway North Bay (interchange with CN and Ottawa
Valley Railway) via Rock Junction (branch to Sherman Mine), Boston
Creek (branch to Adams Mine), Kirkland Lake (interchange with
Nipissing Central), Porquis (branch to Timmins), Welsh
(branch to Iroquois Falls) and Cochrane (branch via Opaz Junction
where there is a branch to the Agrium phosphate mine, and Hearst
where there is interchange with CN, to Calstock) to Moosonee on the
shore of James Bay. Total length of line about 1030 km.
Passenger services operate on the main line between Cochrane and
Moosonee. In 2024, contracts were let for rehabilitation work to
allow the reintroduction of a passenger service beteween Cochrane
and Toronto. Between North Bay and Toronto the service will run
over the lines of CN.
Canada Chrome Corp proposed new railway from
Nakima (interchange with CN) to mineral deposits, principally
chromite, in the James Bay Lowlands of northern Ontario. Length
of line about 328 km.
